Kumare

Last night I was lucky enough to attend the NY premier of Kumare at the NYU Kimmel theatre and it was great. Hilarious and moving, it was just what I needed last night.

Cafe Gitane, The Jane, which one?

Last Sunday I told my friend to meet me at the Jane for brunch. First she assumed I was talking about The Jane on W Houston. When I specified to meet me at Cafe Gitane, she went to the restaurant in Soho and when she mentioned she was inside and I still didn't see her, we realized she still was not in the same place. I meant for her to meet me at the restaurant at the Jane hotel on Jane St. Finally she arrived and we enjoyed a very delicious brunch, mimosas and bloody marys included.

At least it was good for something

I went on a blind date a few weeks ago. While things went ok, I do not think we have any sort of future together; including a second date. Luckily, the story doesn't end poorly. Pre-date in some late night gchat exchanges he shared his love of certain photographers with me. I will now share them with you, as it is unethical to not highlight such lovely art.

Face Paint - Fun Time

Went to Riff Raff's last night, after expecting to sit at home. What a turn of events. Tiki drinks and face paint. What is better than that? The mix of 80's beats and hip hop kept us dancing the night away. Luckily, it is conveniently located right below the Hurricane Club.

Pumpernickel Toasted with Norwegian Lox

With Natallie in town, we had to have our typical goodbye lunch. I met her at Zucker's Bagels & Smoked Fish. I was not disappointed to say the least. I ordered a toasted pumpernickel bagel with cream cheese and lox and she ordered a toasted everything with hot pastrami. Both sandwiches came with a pickle. While the pickle was not to my liking, the bagel was fresh and fluffy and the lox was killer. Because there were at least five choices of lox, I really did not know what to choose. I felt like I had entered heaven. I need to return so I can try at least four more sandwiches - each with a different type of salmon of course.

Ward III

Friday night I met a friend for drinks at Ward III in Tribeca. The vibe was cool and the drinks were creative, interesting, and very tasty. Mixologists Michael J. Nedd and Kenneth McCoy know what they're doing and who can say no to muddled strawberries? I ordered the Baby Eveline and I know I will be back soon for more. The exposed brick and Beatles covers kept me happy for almost two hours. I particularly enjoyed the bottles that appeared to be filled with elixirs and other fixings for potions along the bar.

Spring Has Arrived!

Nothing makes me happier in the spring than having fresh flowers in my room and apartment. I picked these up today, and put them in my great grandmother's vase on my night stand. Instant beauty!

My wonderful friend Emma drew me these portraits below. These are from our trip to England/Ireland two years ago...My next "to do" is getting them framed.

I cannot disclose the source or recipient of this message, but know it came from a well known dating site. It is extremely absurd, it makes me chuckle everytime I look at it.

I like my dumplings plump...

This weekend I was really craving dumplings. I have passed by Plump Dumplings many times, but never ventured inside....until...I caved and decided I needed to see what they had to offer. I ordered the special which consisted of 6 vegetable dumplings with lomein (there were about 15 other options - I of course went with one of the least healthy.) I once again left extremely full, yet equally as satisfied. It was not my favorite place, but it fulfilled a craving for greasy Asian food - and I am sure it will do the same for many cravings to come.

Angelica Kitchen - Vegan and Didn't Know It

Last week I tried Angelica Kitchen with a friend, which we stumbled upon while looking for a BYOB near her apartment. I felt like we ordered one of everything from the menu, because I left feeling extremely full, but really we merely had a small sampling of some of the interesting options. A few of which include the below.

Picasso Guitars at the MOMA

I have yet to see the Picasso Guitars Exhibit at the MOMA. I am determined to go this weekend!

SOUEN Organic Ramen - so delicioso

After checking out an apartment in the Village tonight, I popped into SOUEN to try the ramen that a friend had recommended. Since becoming a vegetarian about two months ago, I have been up for trying vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, etc. restaurants and thought I would give this place a shot. I had the spicy miso ramen with tofu, and the broth was so great I forced myself to finish the entire thing. Needless to say, I will definitely be returning there. I like when nothing is off the menu in terms of choices, and this place fits the bill.

Tom's Shoes - Bought my first pair

Bought my first pair of Tom's shoes today. I am pretty excited about them. I am a tad behind the trend, but how can you be behind when it comes to giving?

Dylan's Candy Bar

After attending a Cancer Care Gala two years ago, where Dylan was the sponsor, I have always respected her philanthropic efforts. This past Sunday, while galevanting around NYC with my partner in crime HJB, we stopped in to assess the sweets situation and also eat a few things.

Finally they are spelling my name with two Ls instead of one!

Vegan Cupcakes - I guess things taste better without eggs and milk

Last night I had my first experience with a Vegan cupcake. Expecting something bland and healthy, I was pleasantly surprised when Cowgirl's Baking on 10th St. provided me with a delicious experience. The icing is a salty sweet blend, and the cake of the cupcake is rich, dense, and hands down better than most other non-vegan sweets. I went with the Vanilla on Vanilla - simple yet oh so delicious
